First Day Jitters

I’m a little out of sorts today…

I didn’t sleep a wink last night.

And it’s not because I kept replaying the image of Jimmy Fallon singing the Boss backed by the Glee kids all night long…

Ok, well not all night at least.

It’s because of this…

My oldest started kindergarten today and I’m a blubbering mess.

Why?

Because my darlin’ little Keegan who has been soooooo excited to start school got a tiny bit nervous just as that big yellow bus drew close…he grabbed my hand and squeezed and said, “Mommy?”

I panicked!

Then without missing a step he jumped on board and took off with hardly a backwards glance.

Then he was off…

Off to school…

Off to the rest of his life…

I need a moment…

I’ll get back to you tomorrow with more.

Sniff sniff…

Awwwww. I know it’s hard, and I’m not sure it gets any easier! Heck, I practically had a meltdown this year myself and Nick’s in first grade now! They do great though and soon you’ll learn to love having a couple hours of time for you. Hang tough ma, your kids are great and Keegan will do awesome today, I’m sure of it!

  3. marissa says:

Oh my goodness, he looks adorable getting on that big, yellow school bus :) I bet you’re a mess?? I’d be too. My son starts preschool tomorrow and I’m already a wreck just thinking about it and it’s only TWO days a week…pathetic, I know! Good luck and hope you held yourself together, I’m sure he’s LOVING every minute of it! I taught P.E. and those little kinder kids are soooo adorable, all ready for a new chapter in their lives!!

    Life comes full circle.
Dad saw the photos of Keegan getting on the school bus.
Then told the story of your first day at Valley Alternative.
You climbing onto that giant bus, full of excitement…waving goodbye…so proud about being such a big girl despite how tiny you were!
Dad, on the other hand, bursting into tears as he watched his baby girl start off on her journey to becoming that big girl.

  10. The BUS! What a strong little guy you have! I mean he got on that bus like a champ! Be proud! I can’t imagine how you must have felt – just think of all the fun stories he will about his first bus trip AND first day of school! Very cool!!

I wish my daughter could take the bus but here we have to pay almost $400.00 a year for it! Sucks

My oldest is a senior this year so I think I will be more of a blubbering mess at the end of the year. :( It is hard when they go off to school. I hope he had a wonderful day!

  12. AWWW! For homework tonight, my second-grader had to make a “Guess Who” page, which required digging out a baby picture to paste to the front. I got out a wallet-sized copy of his 1-year-old portrait and immediately started sniffling. He knew, too, and started giggling and sighing, “Aw Mom, Come on!” I couldn’t help it…he was my first BABY and he’s in SECOND GRADE! :)

    (((Hugs))) Mama!

Awwww, I bet it was a tough day for you! Em did great on her first day of Kindergarten but Brad would not get on the bus. I had work him into it! Took a couple of days but he finally got on there. Now, he only wants to ride the bus!

  16. Believe it or not, I remember those days. It IS hard to see the big cold bus come and take your kids away. :-(

  17. Awwwwhhhhhh…that made me teary eyed and I don’t even have kids!! Hope your day wasn’t too bad after that!! (((HUGS)))

Hi Ma, sorry I haven’t been around for a bit. Been berry berry busy. I’m sorry you’re verklempt but am glad he jumped instead of becoming dead weight at the end of your arm. Hope he flew into your arms when he got home.

I had that same issue. I couldn’t sleep. My baby went to First Grade today and didn’t even want me to walk her to the bus. She wanted her big brother. How sad! I am relieved and glad that so far she loves it. Hope all is well with your Kindergartener!!
