  1. I wonder if that is anything like a beignet? Which is basically the french word for fried dough – LOL. Yours looks a little more smooshed than our traditional beignet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beignet

  2. Alex aka Ma, What's For Dinner says:

Is is sort of like a beignet! Which I love by the way! It’s also sort of like a funnel cake or zeppolis. Either way is yummy dough and you fry it and sprinkle it with sugar. Doesn’t matter what the shape is, it’s just gooooood!

Well if you ever come back to Canada make sure you get a BeaverTails, which is fried dough goodness with toppings. My favourite is cinnamon and sugar. (http://www.beavertails.ca/)

I will be thanking you properly on my blog today. I mentioned you yesterday but I was so ticked about a story I needed to vent first.

I stay far away from eastern fried dough. I hear the stuff they make out in the southwest is to die for. My all-time favorite food is Fair Fries. Ain’t nothin’ like ‘em. Well, except for that guy who sells them down at the beach in his little hole in the wall. But they always taste ever so much better at the fairgrounds.

  5. That looks tasty! Our fair is mid July. I guess I like icey stuff most of all.

  6. YUM!! Making me excited for the state fair where I can indulge in things like that!

  7. Give me fried dough with some honey and I’ll have a wordless any day! :) Always makes me think of funnel cakes….mmmmmmm…I wish the fair was going on right now!!

  8. Yenta Mary says:

Boy, it’s hard to beat fried ANYTHING! This stuff is fabulous!

  9. marissa says:

Definately kettle popcorn! YUM! Although if my husband saw that picture, he’d say that fried dough…ha! Here we have funnel cakes and they look a lot like that, huh?

  10. We cannot go on our annual fair trip without having a “Krusty Pup” which is a corn dog. It’s the only one I eat all year but can’t break the habit!

The fried dough at our fair is called an “Elephant Ear”. OK I’m starving now.

  11. YUM!! I love funnel cakes and curly fries.

  12. kerry says:

SCONES!! our state fair is known for the strawberry filled scones. yummy!!

  13. I have always liked Churros!!!

Hmmm. Let me think… Ooh, I know, I really love the grilled corn on the cob! Yum! This fried dough looks awesome!

Oooh — Fried Dough/Dough Boys by a LANDSLIDE!! Going to my hometown county fair this year to “the” fried dough stand and literally cant wait. I’m already salivating!!

  21. ChowderMom says:

Tell me it was the one in Fairfield :)

  22. Kelli says:

Ooooo…I love fried veggies! They’re fantastic-ness and you can actually say you’re eating your veggies. I gotta say though, elephant ears (or your fried dough) are a close second, especially if you get them with yummy apple pie topping! Oy! Be still my heart!

  23. George Douglas says:

My grandmother would use the left over dough made for light rolls the next morning, to make what she called “Keekles”. I am not sure of the spelling and I can’t find the word anywhere related to food. Her ancestors were from England and Ireland. She would form oval shaped patties from the light bread dough and fry them. We then ate them with butter and honey on top for breakfast. If anyone knows the word or its origin, I would appreciate th details.
