I’m changing my name

mas memoirs I’m changing my name

Hello there to my fellow blog hoppers!

If today is your first time here in The Fitzpatrick kitchen, welcome, welcome, pull up a stool…

What can I get you?

I’m Alex…

Otherwise known as Ma…

Yup, Ma, What’s for Dinner?

Nice to meet you,

I’m changing my name…

No not the blog name, not even my real name. It’s Ma I want to lose right now. Or any variation thereof…

You know…

Mom?

Mommy?

Mama?

Mooooooooooooooooooom?

Mamamamamamamamamamamamamamamamamamamamama!!!!!!

It’s all I hear….

ALL

DAY

LONG.

Nonstop. Mama, can I have a drink? Mama, can I have a snack? Mama, can we go outside? Mama, can we go to the park? Mama, Brady hit me. Mama, Keegan kicked Cooper. Mama, Cooper ate dog poop. Ok, so that last one I may pay attention to…

If you’re a mom you know what I’m talking about.

I can’t get anything done around here.

If I’m making dinner it takes me an extra 45 minutes because I  have to stop 72 times to get a snack, fix the Wii, tie a shoe, change a diaper, wipe a nose, change a shirt, or wipe a butt.

If I’m doing the laundry it takes 2 hours to fold one hamper of clothes because I have to open a juice box, make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, find a Batman action figure, locate the DS in the couch, clean the crayon off the wall, and clean the pee off the other wall because little boys have terrible aim.

So I figure, if I change my name, maybe I can get a little work done?  Maybe I can sit and have a cup of coffee?  Maybe I can do my nails?

mas memoirs I’m changing my nameIf I change my name someone else named Mama will wipe some butts.

But then someone else will get the snuggles…

and the kisses…

and the loving looks…

Someone else would get to tuck them in, and wipe away tears, and read bedtime stories.

Hmmm, on second thought, maybe I’ll just keep it.

It’s a pretty good name.

I kinda like it.

It’s grown on me. mas memoirs I’m changing my name

It suits me.

Alright, I love it!

And seriously, who wouldn’t want to wipe these butts?

Have a great weekend!

Lots of yummy love,

Alex aka Ma, What’s For Dinner

  1. HAHA!!! So you’re saying I should enjoy this stage where Drake is not yelling my name a thousand times a day?

  2. Alex aka Ma, What's For Dinner says:

Yes you should enjoy it now. And sadly, of my 3 the little one still doesn’t talk so really, I only have 2 yelling it all day. Can you imagine what it will be like when Coop gets in on the action???

  3. My mom use to threaten us with changing her name to a dirty word so every time we called her she could was our mouths out with soap. I think that came from the fact that we never wanted to talk to her until she was on the phone or trying to relax…then it was mom..mom..mom..mom..mom..mom!!! lol

  4. Nichol says:

Great blog! Blog hopping today through FF and found yours on another site. My 3 year old is calling me mother right now, not very cool lol. I told her I’m not mommy anymore and that’s when she started. Too cute. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  5. Krysten says:

When I would be mad at my mom I would call her MOTHER and she HATED it. I still joke around and call her that sometimes. Poor her.

  6. Stacey says:

I can TOTALLY relate! So true!

  7. Katie says:

  8. Heather says:

Hi. Thanks for stopping by. I can certainly relate. My mother witnessed me trying to pack boxes in between wiping butts and feeding a baby and putting the dog out last night and exclaimed she couldn’t IMAGINE why I wasn’t done yet.

  11. Cheryl says:

Beautifully done Alex. I still call my mom what I’ve usually called her all my life: Ma. I do remember when she’d ignore one of the six of us, one could be counted on to go into the riff: Ma, Mom, Mommy, Mommmmmmmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Ah, memories.

  12. Lanie says:

  14. cheri says:

oh, alex, i was just telling my hubby the same thing. hearing MOMMY! all.day.long can be very cumbersome. then, i realized that the day would come that my son wont call me as much anymore. he wont let me run my fingers thru his hair, no more nosey-mommy, no more kiss-mommy…

hubby is apologizing for being a bit insensitive, as we speak.

  15. Lazaro says:

Wonderful post Alex. I hope you have a great weekend.

  16. Cute post! :-) The last of our five kids is 21 years old, so the pitter patter of little feet (make that BIG FEET) will soon be leaving us, I know…

That was so cute! I loved it!!! You’re so right, hearing mama all day long can get to be a little obnoxious at times, but I know I’d hate it if I didn’t EVER hear it. Wiping bums is SO MUCH FUN!!! :) :)

  22. Chef Dennis says:

    hi Alex

aw, now you made me feel bad for my poor mom…..just remember when there off in college, you’ll sit in their rooms wishing they were calling for mommie….now I definitely have to call my mom….

  26. lexlocilori says:

I used to think my mother was deaf — but when I had a kid I realized that out of necessity you block out about 70% of all “MOM”s thrown your way. You have to do it for your sanity (and I just had one kid).

  27. lexlocilori says:

adorable post by the way :)

  28. Lacie E says:

i totally understand all of this i was nodding my head saying yep thats me yep i hear ya then at the end I was like you know what you are so right i need to stop and think that more often. but honestly is it too much to ask to not spill the bubble everywhere lol

  29. Sara says:

Thanks for the follow, right back at ya! Can’t wait to catch up and seriously…can I have a snack?

  30. Julie M. says:

Isn’t this the absolute truth? I can tell my 4 year old I’m heading up to the bathroom and within 10 seconds of disappearing, I start to hear, Mommy? Mommy? over and over until I either postpone going to the bathroom to go tell him where I was trying to go OR I refuse to move and instead attempt to scream from the top of my lungs from where I’m at waking the baby up in the process. It never fails, he does it to me every day. And you’re absolutely right, I wouldn’t change it for the world.

    Great post Alex!

gotta love summer vacation! First day of school is Sept 1st here. :)

  35. Hahaha I don’t have any kids myself but I hear you! I couldn’t imagine how busy you would be with all the non-stop requests.

  36. SaucyB says:

very funny and all very true. Given the choice, I’ll keep my ‘name’ too. happy SITS Sharefest! :-)

  37. Cheryl says:

And the other problem? They’d just come up with something else to call you. And i guarantee it wouldn’t be as sweet as “Mommy.”

  38. Jocelyn says:

There have been many days when I wanted to change my “mom” name but in the end I wouldn’t have it any other way! I am glad to always be there for my kids and hope they always keep calling:-)

  39. Missy says:

I definitely know how you feel. I am always telling my husband, if I could just get a week’s vacation at home without being mom, I could get so much stuff done!

  40. Debbi says:

Exactly! It’s amazing how the bad and the annoying just melt away when they snuggle up and give those hugs! I love the way you look at things. Even my exhausting shopping trip. Thanks for the comment you left for the SITS potluck!

  41. Tammy says:

I agree to changing our names…only somedays though. Those “Mom, I love you’s”, I never tire of. I have been getting an education from my youngest lately too “mom, did you know….” It is so much fun listening to him learn. I would never trade those mom days!
