And Cooper and Daddy…

And while we love all our Boston Sports teams…

And Boston truly is Titletown!

What with the Sox, Celtics, and Pats all bringing home the hardware as of late.

featured We Interrupt This Regularly Scheduled Program

This is super special to us!

We love our Bruins!

We love this tough and hard working team.

This bunch of scrappers that weren’t supposed to get this far.

featured We Interrupt This Regularly Scheduled ProgramAnd quite possibly one of the greatest goaltenders ever!

Yes this one is very special to Team Fitz…

Super special to Keegan.

Who became a sports fan this season…

A huge Bruins fan…

Keegan has to go to bed at 7:30 every night.

Keegan wakes up early every morning to watch the DVR’d game from the previous night before he catches the bus to kindergarten…

He loves the Bruins…

He loves Chara…

And Horton…

And Boychuck…

And Marchand…

And Ryder…

And Bergeron…

And Thomas…

And Seguin…

And the whole rest of the team.

He can tell you the score from every game he’s ever seen.

It’s remarkable.

So last night at around 11 pm…

We had to wake Keegan up.

So he could witness history…sorry about that iPhone picture.  But you get what I mean.  It was really late!

featured We Interrupt This Regularly Scheduled ProgramI tried to explain to him how rare it is that your team actually wins.

The hubs has been a Bruins fan his whole life and this is the first time they’ve brought home Lord Stanley’s Cup in his lifetime.

The last time the Bruins won was 39 years ago.

Boston’s sports world’s Cup certainly runneth over.

Congrats to an amazing team.

Boston is Titletown once again.

And I can’t believe it’s true…

The Bruins are Stanley Cup Champs!

Thanks to the NHL.com and Boston Bruins for the Bruins photos

Restaurant Review – Sel de la Terre

I was recently in Boston with some girlfriends for the weekend.

On Saturday we went to this restaurant that I’ve seen a million times, yet never actually walked into.

featured Restaurant Review – Sel de la TerreI have to admit I don’t care for the signage.

BUT…

I had no idea what I was missing!

I’m not sure how to say this…

Best burger ever!!!!!

Ok, there, I said it.

And it’s true…

Holy crap…

Let  me say it again.

BEST BURGER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, and I even all caps’ed it.

Check this thing out.

Could you just die?

Ok, so the SDLT Burger is what I ordered here.

Cooked medium rare.

With smoked bacon.

Creamy Vermont cheddar.

A spicy aioli, with a hint of black truffle.

Served with a plate of fantastic french fries!

This thing was amazing!

I couldn’t stop talking about it.

I was chatting up every server in the place about it.

They were wonderful by the way.

And let’s talk about the atmosphere…

I loved it.

It was beautiful and sophisticated yet relaxed enough that I could bring the kids.

Thankfully though, they were home in CT with Dad.

But seriously, did I tell you about the burger???

featured Restaurant Review – Sel de la Terre

I seriously had dreams about it.

The thing I really like about Sel De La Terre which I am pretty sure translates to “Salt of the Earth” is that they are all about local & sustainable.  You know how much I LOVE that!  They are all about local farms, local seafood, and everything is fresh fresh fresh!

Oh and then I found out they had just won best burger in Beantown.

Well I have to agree!

Can’t wait to go back!

Next time you’re in the area be sure to stop by.

It’s on Long Wharf, right next to the Aquarium.

Ode to the Sunset Grill – Chunky Chicken Nachos

Back in the olden days when I was just a young pup of about 19, I landed my first waitressing gig.

It was at a great little place in Boston called the Sunset Grill & Tap.

They were famous for their hamburgers…

their beer (this was back before the whole microbrew craze and we were famous for having over 100 beers on tap and over 400 more in bottles – oh and being only 19 I didn’t know what any of them tasted like, of course, no really…)

and their NACHOS!

The nachos…oh the nachos…the nachos were amazing…

First off, the nachos are enormous! I mean huge. 4 college football players would have issues finishing the plate.

And they were topped with yummy goodness…

Cheddar Cheese, Salsa, Ground Beef, Tomatoes, Sour Cream, Lettuce, Olives, all on top of tri color corn chip delight.

Here, I’ll show you…

That’s Brady, a few years back, sitting behind a plate of Sunset’s nachos. Doesn’t he look like Cooper now? Creepy huh?

That’s me and Keegan on that same visit to Sunset, and yes, I’m enjoying one of those beers I never got to try…just go with me on this one.

So I was in Boston last weekend and didn’t make it to the Sunset for my favorite nachos so I decided to whip up a plate of these at home. I made mine out of ground chicken to lighten things up a bit, well as much as you can lighten up nachos that is…Let me first apologize for these pics. I broke my camera so I had to take these with my iPhone…The pics may be slightly sad but the nachos were awesome.  I though the hubs was going to cry…he may have shed a tear he liked them so much.

appetizers Ode to the Sunset Grill Chunky Chicken Nachos

Serves 6 Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 15 minutes

1 lb ground chicken

1 packet taco mix

3/4 cup water

large bag of tortilla chips

2 cups of cheddar cheese

1 tomato chopped

1 small red onion chopped

1 avacado chopped

4 T chopped cilantro

1 head of iceberg lettuce, sliced

chopped olives

sour cream

sliced jalapenos

Preheat your oven’s broiler.  In a large skillet brown your chicken over medium high heat.  When it’s cooked through season with taco mix and 3/4 cup water.  Cook for an additional 5 minutes.  Place a single layer of tortilla chips on a baking sheet.  Sprinkle with half of your cheese.  Place under the broiler for 3 minutes.  Remove from oven and top with more chips, chicken mixture and remaining cheese.  Place back under the broiler for another 5 minutes. appetizers Ode to the Sunset Grill Chunky Chicken Nachos

Remove from oven and transfer to a serving dish.  Top with lettuce, tomato, olives, avacado, cilantro, onions, jalapeno, and sour cream.  Serve ‘em up hot and gooey!  I like to add tobasco to mine too.

Do you have a favorite restaurant dish that you’d like to recreate?

Meatball Sangies

Sangies…Ahhh, the sangie.  Oh how I love the sangie.  See back in the day, oh gosh, it’s waaaay back in the day now, when I was beating the streets in Beantown during college I used to frequent this great little pizzeria called T. Anthony’s.

It was the best!

The kind of place that kept a tab for you when you didn’t have any money, the kind of place that forgave your tab when you really had no money, the kind of place that can spot your little brother and give him a slice a pizza when he comes to visit you in a snow storm even though they’ve never met him before.

It’s the kind of place where everybody who works there has been there since they were born and everyone knows your name and what you want to eat before you’ve even ordered it.

It’s kind of like Cheers, but with food.

Anyway there was this guy, we’ll call him Tony, and he was this big ol’ italian guy who worked the day shift and he used to get me my coffee and bagels in the morning and he’d make us our sandwiches at lunch time.  I was partial to their chicken salad with honey mustard, OH EMM GEE!!!!  But when Tony would call you when your sandwich was up he’d say “Hey Al, your saaaangwich is ready.”  It was so weird.  And he’d always ask if you wanted “onjuns” on it.  That’s onions to you and me.

So henceforth all sandwiches in college became Sangies.  Even the “Jean Sangie”  in which we not so affectionately referred to the denim sandwich look of denim jeans on the bottom and a denim shirt on top.  Oh jeez, don’t get me going on the fashion choices of the early to mid 90s!  Reverse fit jeans and half boots anyone?  Why did I spend my hot 20s years wearing mom jeans???  Anyone?  Anyone?  Bueller????

Ok, so here it is my recipe to use up those leftover meatballs.  This one’s for you Tony…”Al, your Meatball Saaaangwich is up.  You want onjuns?”

dinner Meatball Sangies

MAma Mia Meatballs recipe

4 hoagie rolls

1 T spreadable butter (or margarine)

2 t garlic powder

1/2 cup marinara sauce

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

basil leaves

dinner Meatball SangiesPreheat your oven to 375 degrees.  Open up your hoagie rolls and spread evenly with butter and sprinkle on your garlic powder.  Toss open faced into your oven for 10 minutes.  Meanwhile heat up your meatballs.  Truth be told I totally do this in the microwave.  It’s easier and faster.  Okay, once their are warm get your bread out of the oven and build your sangie.  Bread, little bit of sauce, meatballs, cheese…repeat.  Place them on a baking dish and stick under the broiler until the cheese gets nice and melty.  Top with basil leaves and serve.  And onjuns if you want.

Thanks Tony!
