Wordless/full Wednesday 6

Momofuku Noodle Bar

171 1st Ave
New York, NY

I’m so bad at the wordless thing.

I mean, have you met me?

I can’t shut up for a second.

Today’s picture is an ode to my birthday weekend in NYC with a picture of one of my favorite things on earth.

Momofuku’s steamed pork bun

memoirs from mommyville Wordless/full Wednesday 6

Martha Stewart herself said this was one of the best pork buns she’d ever had.

I assure  you it is.

No disrespect to my Ma who used to make steamed pork buns in our oven at home with roasted pork she brought home from the take out chinese place.  Thanks, Ma.  You’re the best.

But Momofuku’s?  OH EM GEE!  It’s incredible.

It’s light and fluffy and then it’s wrapped around a pork belly and some scallion, hoisin, cucumber goodness.

Not to mention the fact that you are sitting at an amazing noodle bar in the East Village about to eat some of the best ramen this side of the Pacific.

If you’re ever in NYC I highly suggest you make the trek downtown for this little gem.  It’s so worth it.  Take a look at the menu…

And here’s a tip for ya, it’s not on the menu but supposedly the fried chicken is the most amazing thing ever.  You have to order it like a month in advance as they only make a certain amount of portions a day.  They fry it in grapeseed oil and I have yet to try it.  I’ve heard it’s remarkable.  Oh, I love New York!

Do you have a restaurant that makes absolutely the best dish ever?  What is it?  Where is it?  Please share so we can all make a special trip too?

    That looks delicious!

  2. I love steamed pork buns.. I haven’t had a really good one in a long long time!
I normally don’t like to promote eating baby cows, BUT, there is a restaurant out here called Riazzi’s and they have the best Veal Parmigiana I have ever had. It’s the right amount of breading and the meat just melts in your mouth….mmmmmmmm!!

  3. Good grief! I’ve never even had a pork bun – not once in my life. In fact, I’d never heard of it before reading this post!

So glad I’m not alone with this problem about being wordless. LOL I always have something to write and find it difficult to post only a picture!! :-)

Sigh … :) Now, on to the question of the day: a favorite dish at a favorite restaurant — ha! I’m too much of an omnivore to settle on that! Corned beef at a NYC deli … deep dish pizza in Chicago … a real pizza in NYC … fried chicken in a Northern Indiana Amish community … salsa at a hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint in the middle of Ohio … I could go on and on and on ….

  5. Sherry says:

Oh, that looks delish! :D Not sure what my favorite dish or favorite restaurant is? Hmm..

  6. My Wednesdays are never wordless either. And that ramen looks fabulous – I haven’t had good ramen like that in years.
    And….now I’m hungry.

Oh that looks SO delicious! Our most favorite restaurant dish is in Nassau, Bahamas. We’ve been there several times and its been TO.DIE.FOR each time…the lobster and grouper combo, grilled and served over rice pilaf with steamed veggies! you are over-looking the beautiful water, while you enjoy the best meal ever! It’s a must try…called the “Poop Deck”, yep that’s the name!! Ha!

  8. I’ve never eaten a steamed pork bun. Maybe I will live a little dangerously, and try one.

  9. YUMMY, Sounds like a Happy Birthday Party!!! Happy belated birthday girlie! Hmmm good place to eat … I haven’t gone out in so long. I love this little place run by a husband and wife in Tacoma, WA. The Old Milwaukee, the wife makes a Italian Pasta soup that is to die for!!! His huckleberry pancakes are really yummy too! I’m all about the small mom and pop restaurants.

P.S. I would LOVE for you to be my neighbor you’re so sweet, I need more ppl like you around me :) . I’m glad I could share a recipe with you, it’s usually always the other way around :)

  10. I’ve never eaten one of those so I’ll have to take your word for it.

Mannings in St. Paul, MN has the best onion rings. I would travel far for these. :-)

I don’t do wordless Wednesdays either. I mean, I participate, but I’m never wordless! I love the healthy stuff offered at Macaroni Grille. I’m able to eat on a “diet” there but it’s still full of flavor. They have those mediterranean dishes and fish and veggies and stuff.
