This is one of those so not wordless ones…
Here’s Keegan…
We’re in NYC…
In Times Square…
At the New Amsterdam Theater…
At Keegan’s very first Broadway show…
Mary Poppins!
See this is kind of a big deal.
At least for me.
One of the reasons I’ve been so thrilled about moving back east is our close proximity to NYC…
and Broadway.
Why?
Well other than the obvious that I love me some show tunes.
But because this is sort of where I come from.
Well yes, NYC, but Broadway itself.
See my parents worked here.
Waaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day.
Yup, Ma and Dad were theater folk.
60′s and 70′s theater folk.
Hippy Theater Folk.
I think it may be cooler now than it was then…
Anyway, bringing Keegan here for his first taste of it was super special for me. Sort of like showing him a bit of his family history.
First I took him to the Stage Deli. I remember my dad taking me here once when my brother and I were kids.
We shared our chicken soup, corned beef sandwich and one hell of a knish.
Then, after hitting the biggest Toys-R-Us I have ever seen we walked back down about 10 blocks to catch the show.
Keegan was enthralled. His eyes were big as saucers. He loved clapping after the numbers finished and by the second act he was pretending to be a conductor. He got such a kick out of Mary Poppins and her umbrella. It really blew him away. I cried. Someone please tell me if these pregnancy hormones ever go away? Maybe we should just rename them mommy hormones.
After the show Keegan and I jumped into one of those rickshaw pedi-cabs, as it started raining, and went down to restaurant row, which has come a real long way since the last time I was here! Dad told me to take Keegan to that Broadway institution of Joe Allen. We met my best friend, Stacey, and Keegan had a real grown up dinner with us.
All in all it was a great way to introduce Keegan to the theater and a piece of his family’s past. It was also a great way to remind me how much I missed it. So big thanks to Grandma Susan and Grandpa Jeff for sending us some tickets for this great show. We really had a blast.
What’s your favorite Broadway musical?

What a lucky little boy!
What a wonderful time for you and Keegan! Going back home, showing your children where you lived, etc. are important, both for us and them. And Broadway! It is actually the only reason I would like to go to New York.
Two I’d love to have seen are Annie and Sweeney Todd.
Good to hear you shared your meal. The Stage Deli’s meals are just too big for one human to eat.
I’m not telling you what my favorite show is because I’ll get laughed out of the blogosphere.
oh wow, sadly I have never been to a broadway show, but I know I’d LOVE it! Our trips to NYC were always so filled with “other” things(I love NYC!) that we didn’t get a chance or the ones we wanted were always sold out by the time we made up our minds
Looks like a great trip that he’ll remember FOREVER and how neat that your parents were broadway stars…very cool!
I think it’s so wonderful that the two of you shared all of that together! What a perfect day!
No way, how cool!!! That is one of my must sees in life, never been to Broadway! What a fun thing!
That sounds like it was so much fun! What a great experience. Happy WW!
Sounds like fun Mommy & Son time!
What an awesome day for you and Keegan!!! I am sad to say that I have never been to Broadway but saw the Lion King in Seattle. Not the same but still so amazing. someday we will make it to NYC!
It looks like you guys had a really amazing time! How cool to be able to show him your parents old stomping grounds as well. My all time favorite broadway show (although I saw it in Chicago so I’m not sure that counts) is Mama Mia. I love love loved it!

Oh how cute!!!!
No. I don’t think those hormones every go away. I never cried before I had Little Butt but now I cry all the time. She made me a softy.
My goal in life was to see Rent on Broadway. We lived up in Syracuse for a few years and The Hubble surprised me by taking me for my birthday a few years ago. It was amazing and he has now been converted to a fan of musicals and Broadway shows. What a lucky guy Keegan is…I had to wait until I was 27 to go to Broadway! LOL!
I was just in NYC for BlogHer and I didn’t get to see a show. I was so very disappointed! I love all musicals…especially Sound of Music. Not sure why…
What a fun adventure! happy WW!
I am pleased but you and Keegan had a great time. I haven’t been to Broadway, but I also love musicals. I have to say Les Mis is my absolute favourite. I balled my eyes out as did the grown man beside me.
